Megan Houghton is the driving force behind one of Australia’s most innovative residential sustainability programs. She has brought a new approach to the environmental agenda of using commercial principles to deliver environmental outcomes and the results are speaking for themselves.
Megan has a diverse career background including international large corporations, niche markets and Board directorships across private and public sectors. This diversity together with balancing career with family creates interesting stories and Megan is an engaging and thought provoking speaker.
After graduating with economics and commerce degrees, Megan established herself at Queensland Treasury working on economic policy, then joined Price Waterhouse Coopers rising to the level of Director at only 28. In 2004 she joined Energex as head of strategy and in 2007 started her own corporate strategy consultancy practice that quickly grew to a team of five with over a million dollars turnover in its first year.
When CEO of CitySmart Pty Ltd, Megan was the driving force behind the Brisbane City Council initiative, EzyGreen, delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government and 10 other corporate partners. The program delivers easy and inexpensive solutions for residents to reduce their energy consumption. Growing this to a $23m dollar project in less than nine months, Megan has lived the challenges, obstacles and ultimate returns that come with commercial projects with such a broad range of unique stakeholders.
Megan is passionate about what she does, the role of the team, and how women can achieve more in business. Driven and real, Megan challenges traditional executive leadership styles and delivers results, both professionally and personally, ensuring that at the end of each day she knows she is making a real change that will help shape the Brisbane her children will experience in the future.
