Let’s be honest, life can be pretty challenging in 2019.
We live in a busy, fast-paced, often uncertain world. Somehow, “stressed” seems to have become the norm. Many of us are feeling more demands from our jobs, partners, children, or ageing parents. The technology that was supposed to make our life easier appears to be making it harder?
We don’t seem to get as much time to see our friends, or exercise, or do the things that bring us the most joy. We are increasingly feeling more overwhelmed as we spread ourselves thin to meet the gruesome schedule of our busy lives. And for all of that, many of us beat ourselves up about it, every single day.
So, what can we do in this “overwhelmed world” to feel happier, healthier and more successful?
The good news is that it is pretty simple. The secret is that just like we train our heart and lungs to improve our physical health, we can also train our brain to improve our wellbeing and become “mentally strong & healthy”.
While it may not seem like it, the truth is that we all have incredible power over our thoughts and emotions. It’s all about the way we think. The simple way to think about it is it’s like the 3 sides of a large triangle:
Which, as a whole, determines how we see the world (our perspective). So a simple 1% shift in our thinking, can have a hugely positive effect on the way we feel and act and see the world around us.
The reality is that life is a rollercoaster – it has its ups, and it has its downs. That’s just real life. If someone tells you that you can be happy all the time, they’re lying.
So it’s important that we teach people the very simple tools and strategies that keep us all mentally healthy, so that when we do experience the low points on the rollercoaster - the tough times in our life – we simply sail on through rather than spiralling further down.
I believe that there are 3 Simple Steps to Wellbeing and Resilience.
Ask yourself the hard question: “How are you showing up in work? How are you showing up in life?” There are easy ways to improve this.
Increasing resilience & happiness via simple awareness, mindfulness & gratitude strategies.
Who wouldn’t want it? First, work out what brings you “real joy”. Then, schedule it in!
By introducing very easy psychological wellbeing strategies that we can all immediately implement into our lives, every one of us can live a more full, meaningful life.
The secret is to look after yourself, take time for yourself, be kind to yourself – to help you get through those dips on the rollercoaster, and to help you be the very best that you can be, every single day.
