Dr Nicholas Mabbott is a Fatigue Risk Management Specialist with over 24 years of experience in sleep science and fatigue risk management. His early academic career with ARRB Group was mainly focused on fatigue and road safety, with research for the National Transport Commission, AUSTROADS, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and most state and territory transport regulators.
Nick’s PhD project was in the research, development, implementation and testing of a fatigue monitoring device for truck drivers. Using this he captured data from 14 successive nightshifts for mine haul truck drivers, two-up truck drivers driving across Australia and livestock operators driving between WA, the NT and Qld.
Nick has provided fatigue and sleep management training to more than 20 thousand personnel, last year delivering to over 5,200 in face-to-face sessions and over 2,000 attendees at conferences and forums.
Nick uses practical strategies to assist people to get better sleep, helping them improve their health and wellness and safety at work and on the road. He firmly believes that if we could better educate Australians on sleep management, we could see a reduction in mental health issues, sickness, and accidents on the road and in workplaces. He is a passionate and engaging speaker who energises audiences into wanting better sleep.
