Andrew Vlahov is best known for his basketball career as one-time former captain and four time Olympian. Upon retiring from the court he took over as chief executive and owner of the Perth Wildcats (1999 - 2006) and Managing Director from 2006 - 2009. He then ran his own sports and events marketing company before assuming the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive of thermal energy company Enerji in 2015.
Andrew was recognised in 2015 in the Australia day’s honours list and received an Order of Australia Medal. He was the Western Australian of Year Sports Award recipient in 2015. Andrew led the way in sustainable and engaging experiences for young West Australians, through international sports and cultural exchange platforms. He created events and sporting properties with a focus on Asia and was responsible for international basketball events involving the national teams of Australia, China, Argentina and Iran.
Andrew also developed international relationships with Asia to build the first sports and cultural exchange between WA, China and SE Asia for young people. The Friendship Games were held in January 2015, had 427 youth from China, Indonesia and WA come together for a spectacular, inclusive event.
Andrew facilitated negotiations with the Shanghai Sports bureau to confirm WA as host of the Friendship Games in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021 and has since widened the invite list to include SE Asia, India, Sri Lanka and Qatar.
Andrew also assisted the National Basketball League engage with Asia.
