SQNLDR Jasmine ‘Jazz’ Young is an F/A-18F Super Hornet Weapon Systems Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). She was the first Australian female aircrew to be deployed to combat on fast jet operations. At age 17 Jazz joined the RAAF and attended the Australian Defence Force Academy to undertake a Bachelor of Business and Air Force Officer Training. She went on to complete her flight training and, after years of hard-work and determination, was selected for ‘fast jet’ operations on the F/A-18F Super Hornet.
In 2014, Jazz deployed to the Middle East to combat Islamic State forces as part of the Air Task Group. Jazz has been a pioneer in the industry, being the sole female aviator in fast jet operations for the majority of her flying career. Jazz continues to lead through adversity, to inspire the next generation of female aviators to push even further.
Jazz is now a Mum to two beautiful young children, has completed her Master of Business, and is posted to the Wing Headquarters managing the F/A-18F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler Air Combat and Electronic Attack capabilities. Jazz’s story is one of determination, resilience and focus. With great insight, compassion and humility, Jazz will inspire your people to push open doors, rise above challenges and make success a habit.
