As a mum of a young boy with Down syndrome, Julie Fisher knows firsthand the heartbreak of seeing your child be made to feel like they don't belong. She has also experienced the flipside, where acceptance and inclusion make magic happen, and has made it her passion to educate others on the profound impact even the smallest acts of acceptance and inclusion can have.
Julie's journey began just before the birth of her third son Darcy. When Julie and her family made a decision to provide a life of love, experiences and positivity for Darcy, she was compelled to share their unexpected story. Over the last 18 years Julie's passion for advocating for inclusion and acceptance for all has continued to grow.
In making sure Darcy has every opportunity to participate in everything he would like to try, she has watched him thrive - and she is passionate about giving other children and adults of all abilities the chance to do the same.
Now, as the author of four books The Unexpected Journey, The Magic of Inclusion, From the Hearts of Mums and Big School, Julie loves speaking to groups of all sizes, in schools, workplaces, support groups and not-for- profits, about the importance of acceptance and inclusion in every aspect of life. She speaks from the heart, in a raw and real way, engaging the audience with her honesty and insights into the world of disability. In promoting awareness of the real and profound impact our actions have on the lives of others,
Julie inspires us all to do better.
